3 Reasons Why our Children Deserve Better than Donald Trump as President

  • Education – a non-factor. I cannot believe that the 2nd largest school district in the United States, L.A. Unified, just came off of strike with the teachers and administrators fighting for basic necessities for their students and classrooms. This “leader of the free world” didn’t even bother to address education. Let’s not even mention the fact that he appointed the most unqualified person on American soil to lead our educational system, Betsy DeVos. She prides herself on her efforts to make college campuses less safe and decrease the likelihood of a person reporting a sexual assault. She advocates for less accountability, more division and discrimination while stripping public schools of the few tools that they have to even attempt to stay competitive. Betsy’s position was bought and paid for at the expense of our kids’ education. Trump never even addresses our education system or gun violence in schools during his State of the Union because he knows that “Ditzy DeVos” is doing our youth no favors.
  • Deregulation – Donald Trump bragged about how he and his administration has deregulated our government at record rates and numbers. What he failed to state but you can quickly research is the fact that many of these regulations have some sort of medical repercussions. It amazes me how people clap for this record because it fills their pockets but without acknowledgement of the health repercussions that come about due to these executive actions. When you take away mandatory testing of water that goes to homes, you fail to acknowledge that the kids that may drink the water could be infected with toxins. When you clap for deregulation of fumes and gasses, you fail to acknowledge the asthma and breathing problems that occur when we don’t limit the amount of toxins in the air that our kids breath.  Asthma is the leading chronic disease in children, and the prevalence of asthma has been rising in the United States and around the world. More kids today are suffering from asthma than previous generations. Asthma is a pre-existing condition. This is all taking place while simultaneously ignoring climate change and trying to get rid of the Affordable Care Act. Who does that?
  • Lies – I used to get a belt whoopin’ for lying. It didn’t matter if it was a little white lie or a full blown story to try to stay out of trouble. I don’t know any parent that praises or ignores liars. Why is the leader of the free world allowed to get up in front of the whole world and spew falsehoods to try to make his point? What kind of example are we setting by preaching one thing at home and praising a person that goes against some of the basics of parenthood? There are people in the base of the Republican party that never speak out against the failure of this president to tell the truth. Evangelicals have been forced to back this man as a president while preaching something else at home and in the community. This is unacceptable.

I will never understand how anybody that has kids and cares about the long-term effects of legislation on human health can vote for or support Donald Trump as our President. Yes, he has made it easier for many to do business, but at what cost? Our kids deserve be
